2008 IPF Junior World Championship
September 1-6, 2008, North West University, Potchefstroom, Republic of South Africa
Texas A&M powerlifters Tiffany McKinney, Alesha Summers, and Dustin Witte debuted with Team USA at the 26th IPF Junior World Championship. In addition, coach Cort Spellman made his first appearance coaching the American junior team. Team USA took second to the Russians on both the men’s and women’s sides, but it was a great meet and the three A&M lifters excelled:
- Alesha Summers, JR, 44 kg class
- Placed 4th
- Won SILVER in the bench press (57.5 kg / 126.8 lb).
(Medals are given out for each lift in addition to the placing.) - Her training was severely compromised this summer, after she underwent hernia surgery in May and caught a staph infection while in Thailand in early August. She had a consistent meet though, making 7 of 9 lift attempts, and given the circumstances she performed very well!
- Tiffany McKinney, SO, 82.5 kg class
- Won SILVER at her first ever world meet!
- Won GOLD in the bench press (145 kg / 319.7 lb, breaking her own American Record).
- Won SILVER in the deadlift (175 kg / 385.8 lb).
- Had a perfect meet, making 9 of 9 lifts.
- Currently ranked 7th in the world in the 82.5 kg class, across ALL age divisions.
- Dustin Witte, JR, 82.5 kg class
- Placed 5th.
- Won GOLD in the deadlift (305 kg / 672.4 lb).
- Had a very consistent meet, making 7 of 9 lifts.
- Currently ranked 11th in the world in the 82.5 kg class, across ALL age divisions.
The Aggies put forth excellent performances and represented both the USA and Texas A&M with pride. We are now looking forward to a successful Collegiate season!
