2006 Longhorn Open

Texas A&M is the 2006 Longhorn Open Team Champion and Men’s Team Champion!!  This victory is all the more impressive because this is almost a brand new Texas A&M team, and it is a young team.

Alesha Summers (freshman) led the women and with her 1st place finish in the 97 pound class, setting team records in all 3 lifts and total.  Jeff Scaparra (senior) led the men with his always-consistent performance and 1st-place finish in the 220 class.  Jeff added 180 pounds to his total from Collegiate Nationals 7 months ago, and set team records in the squat, deadlift and total.  Anthony Brown (sophomore) took 1st place in the 275 class, while Randy Johnson (sophomore) took 1st place in the 242 Bench-Only class.

Congratulations to the entire team for working together and earning the win!  This was absolutely a team effort--no one did this on their own!

Thanks to LSU (especially Coach Arval Bridges, Exxon, and Daren Cressionnie) for all their help, at the meet and leading up to it.  Also, thanks to Ashley Awalt, Shay Stone, and Tony Cardella, as well as Joe Holland and Travis Bailey for their help.
We couldn’t have done it without you guys!
