Team Organization

The Powerlifting Club is run by the following student officers.  The club owes its success to all of its members, but the officers have a huge role in making the club work. From coaching the team to coordinating club functions, working with Rec Sports to recruiting new lifters, the officers make it happen.

You’ve never heard of powerlifting but you’re amazed by how much FUN we’re having...

Come join us!!

  1. FUN!
  2. Strength gains and the enjoyment of watching hard work pay off
  3. Increased leadership abilities
  4. Increased consciousness of your physical fitness and well being
  5. Friends who will help you inside or outside of the gym
  6. MORE FUN!

To participate on the Texas A&M Powerlifting Team, one must meet certain requirements.  There are requirements to be met in order to be accepted as a team member, and there are requirements to be met in order to participate in USAPL competitions.  A quick rundown of these requirements is listed below:

  1. Every Texas A&M Powerlifting team-member MUST actively participate in team practices!
  2. Every Texas A&M Powerlifting team-member must pay dues to the club ($35 per semester for returning members).
  3. Every Texas A&M Powerlifting team-member must participate in fundraising events (since we receive limited funding from the University).
  4. In order to lift in a powerlifting meet as a collegiate lifter, you must be under the age of 26, you must be a full-time student (at Texas A&M this means 12 semester-hours for undergrads), and you must have a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average.
  5. In order to lift at Collegiate Nationals, you must qualify as a collegiate lifter and also meet a pre-determined qualifying total at a USAPL meet within one year of the national contest.  (The qualifying total varies by weight class.  Click here for USAPL national qualifying totals.)

Can I get a scholarship? As you may have read previously, we receive limited funding from the University and we support ourselves via fundraisers.  Powerlifting is not considered a NCAA or NAIA sport so we do not have sufficient funding to give scholarships.  We hope that in the future powerlifting becomes a sport that the NCAA will accept and contribute towards.

However, there is now a fund set aside by the USAPL Collegiate Committee for powerlifting scholarships!  One male and one female high-school senior are selected each year to receive this scholarship.  Please visit the USAPL website for more information!

We’re always looking for new lifters!  Come out to practice and introduce yourself; we’ll be glad to tell you more about the team and get you started powerlifting!  There are no try-outs, no minimal lifting requirements, and no size, weight, or gender constraints for anyone that wants to join the team!
Everyone willing to be part of the team and willing to work hard is welcome!

Team Goals

The primary goal of this team is to help each lifter off the platform!!  This includes help with academic, social, and college life.  Our officers are not only seasoned powerlifters, but also seasoned college students who know the tricks and techniques of being successful in the classroom.

After that, the goal of this team is to make every one of its members successful on the platform and as a team, win the Collegiate National Championship.  Powerlifting demands great focus, strength, and endurance--with a team to support you, all of these things will be within your grasp.
This is part of our training facility in G. Rollie White 161B.

This isn’t the Rec Center weight room; we maintain an atmosphere conducive to training.  Just use your head, help out your teammates at all times, and DON’T TURN THE STEREO UP PAST THE WHITE LINE.
